Dhammanusari

The 1st Dhammanusari Day Retreat at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple was held on 9th August 2009. Preceptors, volunteers from Dhamma Gavesi Youth Group, and devotees of the temple, started the day as early as 5am, preparing for the days’ event at the temple.

At 6am, preceptors were briefed on the program for the day, and thereafter, arrangements for breakfast and morning puja was underway. At 7am, led by 14 monks, 84 Preceptors started the observance of the 8-precepts.  This was followed by the Buddha Puja under the Boddhi Tree, and offering of breakfast Dana to the venerable monks.

After breakfast, the day proceeded with Ven. Rathanasara explaining the significance of observing the training precepts. Thereafter, Cittanupassana Meditation was practiced, followed by the Offering of Buddha Puja, Lunch Dana for the venerable monks and the preceptors.

The program for the afternoon commenced with an hour of Iriyapata Bhavana (Silent Walking). Preceptors then viewed a documentary film on “Life of the Buddha”, and a Dhamma Talk slide show on Anicca – Impermanent nature of the existence.  A Question and Answer session followed, and preceptors incessantly voiced their queries and doubts. Ven. Rathanasara and Dhamma brother Richard Chai aptly responded to questions, clearing the doubts of many. 
The day ended with a feedback on the day’s program, followed by the termination of the Eight Precepts. A day well spent, and a program that ran smoothly. Many must have left the temple with a sense of peace, happiness and a great sense of accomplishment.
